Why is this important
The reform will align the system with international standards, streamline the admission process for graduates to foreign universities, and remove the necessity of one-year preparatory courses abroad.
What happened
- a preparatory class for children aged 6 will be included in the programme;
- training structure: 1 year of preparation + 4 years of primary school, 5 years of basic secondary (5-9 grades), 2 years of general secondary (10-11 grades);
- graduates will be able to directly apply for bachelor’s programs abroad;
- annually, about 15 thousand graduates are forced to study additionally due to the discrepancy between the terms of study;
- in 85% of countries with high PISA-2022 results, school education lasts 12 years;
- amendments will be made to the laws “On Education” and “On Preschool Education and Upbringing”.
Context
Currently, the school system in Uzbekistan lasts 11 years. Introducing a 12-year cycle will align it more with European and Asian standards and boost the competitiveness of Uzbek graduates.
