Uzbekistan set a record for green energy generation

According to data as of September 23, the country's solar and wind power plants have produced a record 8 billion kWh of electricity since the beginning of 2025, almost a billion more than previous highs.

Why is this important

This level shows that Uzbekistan is increasingly moving towards a sustainable energy trajectory: green generation reduces the burden on gas resources, decreases emissions, and strengthens energy security.

What did the numbers show

  • There are 12 solar power plants and 5 wind farms operating in the country with a total capacity of about 4.6 thousand MW.
  • The achievements made it possible to save 2.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas and prevent the emission of more than 3.5 million tons of pollutants.
  • Including hydropower, the total green contribution (solar, wind, and hydropower) reached 13.2 billion kWh, representing 22% of the country’s total electricity production.
  • This volume could provide electricity to 7.3 million households for 9 months or 5.5 million households for the entire year.

Context

In Uzbekistan’s strategic plans, green generation should occupy a significant share in the energy balance: target indicators — more than 20% by 2025. Already in August, the volume of solar and wind generation exceeded 7 billion kWh, so reaching 8 billion is a logical progress. The development of green energy is supported by legislation, investments, and the international emission reduction agenda.
