Afghanistan proposes to simplify visa procedures and expedite trade through Termez

During the meeting on October 14 between the head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the delegation from Afghanistan, it was proposed to simplify the issuance of business visas, expedite cargo transportation, and optimize customs clearance in the port of Termez.

Why is this important

Such initiatives can significantly increase trade turnover, stimulate investment, and facilitate the activities of businesses in both countries, especially in border areas.

What happened

  • The Afghan side proposed to simplify the procedure for issuing invitations and business visas for Afghan businessmen.
  • The discussion focused on optimizing the operation of the Termez port, accelerating cargo handling, and simplifying customs procedures.
  • An initiative was proposed to open an office of the Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) in Tashkent.
  • The parties intend to hold quarterly B2B meetings in Tashkent, Kabul, Termez, and Balkh, and annual mutual exhibitions.

Context

In August, agreements worth over $20 million were signed between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, calling for visa easing. Afghan representatives previously emphasized that without visa simplification, it would be difficult to trade, despite the growing potential.

Within the framework of the bilateral agreement, visa and customs benefits are expected to be introduced for visitors to the Termez Trade and Industry Center.
