Why is this important
The deal is the largest in the automotive industry of Uzbekistan in recent years. It will strengthen the country’s export potential and accelerate the localization of transport technologies.
What happened
- Anadolu Isuzu acquired a 75.2% stake in SamAuto for $80 million;
- The deal includes an additional $80 million investment package;
- Large-sized buses and electric buses (12-18 m) are planned to be produced;
- They will create a service network throughout the country and establish exports to Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Middle East, and Africa;
- Consultants: KPMG (financial), Dentons (legal), PwC (evaluation);
- The deal has been approved by the privatization state commission and is awaiting final approval from Turkish regulators.
Context
The privatization of SamAuto is part of the course to attract investors to the auto industry. Uzbekistan is developing its own bus industry with a focus on export and environmentally friendly transport. Anadolu Isuzu is part of Turkey’s large holding Anadolu Group, actively developing international projects in the field of commercial transport.
