Why is this important
The project is a key part of the modernization of public transport. It reduces traffic congestion, reduces the load on private vehicles, and speeds up the movement of residents. Against the backdrop of urbanization and population growth, BRT is one of the most effective tools for sustainable mobility.
What is known
- Length of the new BRT network: 50.6 km;
- Number of streets: 10, including Amir Temur, Navoi, Beruni, Yangi Sergeli, Mirzo-Ulugbek and others;
- Planned passenger traffic: 1.14 million people;
- Project cost: $126 million, implementation — until 2030;
- The average speed of buses will increase from 18 to 23 km/h, the interval will be reduced from 20 to 8-10 minutes;
- Travel time to the center will be reduced from 45 to 34 minutes.
Pilot on Shota Rustaveli Street:
- Length of the section: 7 km;
- Cost: $19.2 million;
- Passenger traffic increased from 2.5 to 6 thousand people per hour;
- Road capacity — up to 40 thousand vehicles per day;
- 21 bus stops, 463 “smart” traffic lights have been installed, and bicycle paths, parking lots, and green spaces have been created.
Context
In the capital, 142 thousand people have already transferred from private transport to buses. Public transport serves up to 1.4 million passengers per day. The project complements the construction of new metro stations, the purchase of electric buses, and the development of New Tashkent.
