Why is this important
The project demonstrates a strategy of deep localisation of production and technologies in Uzbekistan. The machine was the first where artificial intelligence was adapted to the national language features.
What happened
- UzPride was assembled at the BYD Uzbekistan Factory in Jizzakh, Gazeta.uz reports.
- Seventeen components (bumpers, glass, seats, sound insulation, etc.) have been localised.
- For the first time, an AI assistant in the Uzbek language was introduced, trained on 1.5 million speech recordings.
- The assistant recognises various dialects and pronunciations, learning as it is used.
- Model development took 14 months instead of the planned 3 years;
- Local partners participated in the project: Avtooyna, Uzdongyang, Uz-Koram-Co, UzAuto-Austem, etc.;
- The company is considering launching the Bao 5 and Bao 8 SUVs in Uzbekistan (late 2025 — early 2026).
What they say
Ivan Cao, BYD Central Asia:
“Local cars, local production, local language, local financing and service — this makes the project truly local”.
Context
Uzbekistan is emerging as a major hub for the production of Chinese electric vehicles and hybrids in the region. This supports the authorities’ strategy to promote “green transport” and localise the auto industry.
