EBRD increased its forecast for Uzbekistan’s economic growth

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development revised its forecast for Uzbekistan's GDP growth for 2025 — up to 6.7%, instead of the previous 6%.

Why is this important

The improvement in the forecast reflects confidence in the sustainability of domestic demand, investment activity, and economic diversification, and also signals investors about macroeconomic stability.

What the prognosis says

  • In the first half of the year, the growth was 7.2%, which was facilitated by an increase in wages, remittances, and other domestic demand.
  • Промышленный сектор стимулируется улучшениями в пищевой и металлургической промышленности.
  • Mining rose due to the rise in global gold prices, which compensated for the weakness in gas production.

In the Central Asian region, the EBRD expects growth of 6.2% in 2025 and 5.2% in 2026.

Context

In the EBRD’s new review, Uzbekistan is highlighted as one of the fastest-growing markets in Central Asia. Economic growth is accelerating due to domestic demand, investments, and high industrial activity.

Experts also point to the support from gold exports and the stability of the financial sector.
