Why is this important
Statistics reveal a significant trend: electric vehicle imports are increasing rapidly, while sales of petrol and hybrid cars are decreasing. This serves as a signal for car dealers, energy companies, and regulators: the market is swiftly shifting towards “clean” transport.
What happened
the total import of passenger cars decreased to 42,230 (−12% by 2024).
electric vehicles: 28,948 vehicles (+124%), $358.9 million (+115%).
gasoline cars: 11,166 cars (−55%), $233.6 million (−57%).
hybrids: 2,025 vehicles (−80%), $46.1 million (−76%).
diesel: 91 cars (+10x), $2.1 million.
Context
In 2024, 12.9 thousand electric cars were imported into the country — 2 times less than in the eight months of 2025. The authorities plan to increase the share of “green” transport by 2030 and are already encouraging the transition to excise taxes and differentiated taxation. However, the delay in implementing the eco-sticker system (postponing to 2026-2035) reduces the impact of these measures.
