In Uzbekistan, they proposed to reduce electricity tariffs for houses without gas

The discount will be 50%, and the limit for preferential consumption will reach 2000 kWh during the heating season.

Why is this important

The tariff changes directly affect families who do not have access to gas pipelines and are completely dependent on electricity for heating and cooking. For such households, winter electricity costs have traditionally become one of the heaviest budget items. New reduced tariffs can significantly reduce the financial burden and simultaneously stimulate the transition to a more modern, fully electrical infrastructure in the housing sector.

What happened

  • In Uzbekistan, it was proposed to introduce reduced electricity tariffs for houses equipped with electric stoves and electric heating instead of gas systems.
  • Discounts are provided for apartment buildings, dormitories, and non-gazified areas where household consumers do not receive liquefied gas or coal at subsidized prices.
  • A technical audit of electrical networks has begun to check their readiness for additional load.
  • Additional analysis is being conducted by the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, “Uzenergoinspeksiya”, “Regional Electric Networks” and “Hududgaztaminot”.
  • The final decision will be made after the preparation of the final conclusion.

Numbers and facts

During the heating season, it is proposed to reduce the current tariffs:

  • from 600 to 300 soums for the first 200 kWh;
  • from 800 to 400 soums for 201-500 kWh;
  • from 1000 to 500 soums per 501-1000 kWh;
  • from 1500 to 750 soums per 1001-2000 kWh.

During the off-heating season, the proposed tariffs will be:

  • 600 soums instead of 300 soums for up to 200 kWh;
  • 400 soums instead of 800 soums for 201-500 kWh;
  • 500 soums instead of 1000 for 501-1000 kWh.

Thus:

  • The limit for applying reduced tariffs is: up to 2000 kWh per month in winter and up to 1000 kWh in summer.
  • The discount amount for all ranges is 50% of the current tariffs.

Context

  • Electrical networks are being audited because the transition of some of the population to electric heating increases the load during the winter period.
  • The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that the initiative is aimed at developing a culture of energy consumption and phased electrification of new residential complexes.
  • The international experience of countries that have switched to electric heating and cooking is cited as a justification.
