Why is this important
The decision is aimed at increasing the level of breastfeeding in accordance with WHO recommendations. Strengthening the regulation of the market for breast milk substitutes reflects the course towards improving children’s health in Uzbekistan. The tightening of standards will affect producers and importers of baby food.

Context
WHO recommends that at least 70% of children under 6 months of age be exclusively breastfed — in Uzbekistan, this figure is still lower. Replacing breast milk with baby food without medical indications increases the risk to the child’s health.
Approval of restrictions is part of a broader healthcare reform and increased focus on prevention and children’s health.
