More than 200,000 Uzbekistanis are unable to pay for electricity because of unpaid waste collection debts

The authorities warned that the possibility of payment will return after the debt is paid.

Why is this important

The mechanism for limiting electricity payments for debts for garbage collection directly affects hundreds of thousands of subscribers across the country. Such a measure strengthens payment discipline and shows that the state is striving to reduce debts in the utilities sector. At the same time, this changes the usual payment process, as citizens have to pay their waste debts to avoid restrictions when paying for electricity.

What happened

  • At the beginning of the month, 231 thousand subscribers received notifications from “Regional Electric Networks” about outstanding debts of 20.1 billion soums.
  • For five days after the notification, 9.4 billion soums were paid.
  • As of December 6, “Regional Electric Networks” temporarily restricted payment acceptance for 204,895 subscribers.
  • Total accounts receivable in the field of waste removal amount to 18.2 billion soums.
  • The complete removal of restrictions occurs immediately after the debt is repaid.

Context

  • This measure will encourage more timely utility payments and may lead to a reduction in debt accumulation.
  • The system allows you to automatically restore the ability to pay after debt is eliminated, making the process fast and transparent.
  • The introduction of such restrictions forms a stricter payment discipline among the population.
