Oppenheimer will invest $1.2 billion in projects in the Andijan region

The American investment company Oppenheimer will finance three large projects worth $1.2 billion in the Andijan region, the regional administration reported.

Why is this important

The agreement strengthens Uzbekistan’s position as a promising destination for American investments and contributes to the development of infrastructure and tourism in one of the key regions of the country.

What happened

  • Creation of a textile industrial zone ($180 million);
  • Construction of an artificial lake in Khanabad ($20 million);
  • “New Andijan” project ($1 billion) — large-scale urban planning with an educational and IT cluster;
  • Negotiations were held in Washington with the participation of Andijan Region Governor Shuhrat Abdurahmanov and Oppenheimer Managing Director John Tonelli.

Context

Oppenheimer has already discussed investments in Uzbekistan: in 2023, the company agreed to finance textile clusters and infrastructure projects. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed naming “New Andijan” after Babur.
