Why is this important
Simplifying visa procedures can stimulate labor migration, mutual investment, and make it easier for Uzbek citizens to work and stay in Slovakia for extended periods while maintaining legal control.
What happened
- The Slovak side expressed its readiness to discuss reducing the processing time for national visas to 1 month.
- Issues of labor migration and exchange of consular information were discussed.
- It is planned to inform the Slovak Migration Agency about the possibilities of attracting Uzbek migrants to Volvo factories and about Slovak language courses for them.
- Bilateral agreements on migration, readmission, and citizens’ mobility are being developed.
Context
A D type national visa grants the right to stay and work in Slovakia for an extended period. In March, Uzbekistan and Manpower Group Slovakia signed a contract for the supply of workers to European car factories.
