Tashkent has been granted nearly 1310 hectares of land for a new airport

In the Tashkent region, land was allocated in the Urta Chirchik and Kuyi Chirchik districts for the construction of the new Tashkent International Airport.

Why is this important

The designated section confirms the project’s scale: the new airport is expected to accommodate up to 20 million passengers annually, with capacity for 169 aircraft simultaneously and over 40 takeoffs or landings per hour. Selecting locations with logistical convenience enhances transport connectivity and regional infrastructure.

What happened

  • Land for the airport — 1309.76 hectares, in the Urta Chirchik (790.76 hectares) and Kuyi Chirchik (519 hectares) districts.
  • Land composition: irrigated — 1075.45 ha, orchards — 112.69 ha, pastures — 0.65 ha, others — 120.97 ha;
  • The president made the decision to begin construction on the new site in August 2025.
  • The airport will be situated near the Tashkent—Samarkand road, 17 km south of the current terminal.

Context

The current Tashkent airport, situated within the city boundaries, has limited scope for expansion. The new airport will be part of a comprehensive infrastructure renewal plan, which also encompasses international airports in Bukhara and Urgench. Construction is detailed in the national fiscal strategy for 2026-2028.
