Why is this important
The presence of powerful data centers within the country will allow Uzbek IT companies to rely on local infrastructure, accelerate the development of AI-based products, protect data, and reduce dependence on external players. This is a key element of digital transformation, especially against the backdrop of global risks in cybersecurity and geopolitics.
What is going on
- DataVolt has begun construction of the first project — a data center in Tashkent IT Park with a capacity of about 10 MW, estimated at $150 million.
- DataVolt and the government of Uzbekistan signed an investment program for up to 500 MW of data centers across the country.
- At ICT Week 2025, DataVolt acts as a digital transformation partner and presents one of the largest energy-efficient shopping malls in the region near Tashkent.
- The country plans to build about 20 data centers in partnership with the private sector and launch a national cloud platform (cloud).
- One of the first users of local clouds is the Uzum digital ecosystem, which received $70 million in investments.
What they say
The Ministry of Digital Technologies confirmed the signing of a strategic agreement with DataVolt for the development of a “stable data center”.
Context
Uzbekistan is moving towards digital leadership in the region: in 2025, the country rose 37 positions in the GovTech Index. The State Strategy “Digital Uzbekistan — 2030” provides for the large-scale development of IT infrastructure, cloud platforms, and services.
IT Park Uzbekistan already serves as a center for attracting CSD projects, infrastructure solutions, and support for technology companies. The success of digital companies like Uzum, growing on their own infrastructure, creates a precedent for other industries.
