Uzbekistan is creating a Center for Water Management Digitalization for “smart” resource management

Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the project to establish a Center for Digitalization and Monitoring under the Ministry of Water Resources, aimed at automating water accounting and optimizing water resource management.

Why is this important

The digital center will reduce losses, increase transparency and efficiency in water use, attract private operators, and adapt the industry to climate challenges.

What happened

  • The center will analyze data on the water balance, the operation of pumping stations, and water consumption.
  • The Suv hisobi platform automatically calculates consumption volumes and transmits data to users.
  • Integration of the system with the “Digital Agriculture” platform and integration of these agencies through the “State Water Cadastre”.
  • The system is scheduled to launch in April 2026.
  • In 2026-2027, it is planned to transfer half a hundred pumping stations in six regions to private companies.
  • Staff will be motivated by KPI indicators; 40% of the water tax can be used to develop the technical base of institutions.
  • In each district, demonstration training grounds will be created — a total of 3.5 thousand hectares in 141 districts — and an irrigation school for farmers and dekhkans.

Context

A single “digital water management” platform has already been created for collecting, summarizing, and analyzing industry data. Earlier, the president emphasized that digitalization is the key to radical changes in the water sector. The project coincides with the global trend of implementing smart technologies in water resource management (IoT, monitoring systems).
