Why is this important
A powerful computing infrastructure is necessary for the large-scale implementation of AI solutions, and the country’s existing capacities are currently only designed for small projects. “Smart City” systems will improve the efficiency of city management, reduce costs and bureaucracy, and create new digital infrastructure. This is one of the steps towards the country’s technological independence, increasing competition, and attracting private and foreign investment.
Key facts
- In 2025, $50 million will be allocated for the purchase of 16 supercomputers, and in 2026, the amount will double to $100 million.
- The President highlighted three key factors for competitiveness: infrastructure, open data, and personnel training.
- Over the past eight years, more than 300,000 km of fiber-optic lines have been laid, 99% of settlements are covered by mobile communication, and 7 data centers have been launched.
- There is already an example in the regions: the “Smart City” system in Urgench combines electricity, gas, water and heat supply, transport, utilities, and allows for the analysis of appeals and suggestions for solutions.
- The heads of regions and the capital’s districts were instructed to study this experience and implement similar systems by the end of the year.
- Starting from 2026, an AI implementation rating for agencies and regions will be introduced; it is also planned to implement 100 projects in healthcare, energy, finance, transport, and agriculture.
What they say
