Infrastructure modernization reduces queues, simplifies control procedures, and increases the border&#8217;s capacity. For Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, the renovation and opening of key checkpoints is important for both the economy and the daily mobility of citizens.  <\/p>\n<h3>What happened<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The opening of the \u201cGishtkuprik\u201d (\u201cChernyaevka\u201d) border customs post on the Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan border is <a href=\"https:\/\/primeminister.kz\/ru\/news\/otkryty-novye-vysokotexnologicnye-punkty-propuska-kazygurt-i-temir-baba-30844\">planned<\/a> for the summer of 2026.<\/li>\n<li>Kazakhstan has commissioned two upgraded automobile checkpoints \u2014 \u201cKazygurt\u201d on the border with Uzbekistan and \u201cTemir-baba\u201d on the border with Turkmenistan.<\/li>\n<li>Kazakhstan is implementing a program to modernize border checkpoints, covering facilities on the borders with China, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.<\/li>\n<li>In April, large-scale reconstruction of the \u201cZhibek Zholy\u201d (Gishtkuprik) checkpoint on the border with Uzbekistan began.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Numbers and facts<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The modernization program includes 9 checkpoints at Kazakhstan&#8217;s external borders.<\/li>\n<li>Work has already been completed at the \u201cKaplanbek\u201d, \u201cAtameken\u201d, \u201cKolzhat\u201d, and \u201cAlakol\u201d points.<\/li>\n<li>By the end of the year, it is planned to modernize the \u201cTajen\u201d, \u201cMaykapchagay\u201d, and \u201cBakhty\u201d checkpoints.<\/li>\n<li>The new complex of the \u201cZhibek Zholy\u201d point will include two passenger terminals with a total area of 10 thousand square meters and a single canopy for vehicles.<\/li>\n<li>After the completion of the work <strong>in July 2026<\/strong>, the point&#8217;s capacity will be up to <strong>70 thousand people<\/strong> and up to <strong>2 thousand passenger<\/strong> cars per day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Context<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The opening and modernization of checkpoints will increase the capacity of the Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan border.<\/li>\n<li>The implementation of automated systems will allow passengers and vehicles to quickly pass control.<\/li>\n<li>The reconstruction of \u201cGishtkuprik\u201d will create a more modern and technologically advanced infrastructure for one of the region&#8217;s key border crossings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is planned that after reconstruction, the point&#8217;s capacity will increase to 70 thousand people per day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":13849,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sharing_image":{"poster":"https:\/\/frank.uz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/693ea10c82998.jpg","width":1200,"height":630,"template":"2bf59057","mode":"auto"},"_sharing_image_fieldset":{"Dv78f24rp1hU":13849,"YlB8HH34jIzY":"The opening of \u201cGishtkuprik\u201d on the Uzbekistan\u2013Kazakhstan border is planned for 2026"},"pin_until":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[2061],"tags":[3679,2557,2080],"class_list":["post-13873","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-en","tag-cooperation","tag-customs","tag-kazakhstan"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v25.0 (Yoast SEO v25.9) - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>The opening of \u201cGishtkuprik\u201d on the Uzbekistan\u2013Kazakhstan border is planned for 2026 &#8212;
