The EBRD will allocate $17.5 million to Techno Cable Group to expand wire production

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide Uzbekistan's Techno Cable Group with a $17.5 million loan to expand capacity and modernize production.

Why is this important

The investment will help increase industry exports, strengthen strategic autonomy in electrical engineering, and strengthen Uzbekistan’s role in global supply chains.

What happened

  • The EBRD approved a loan for Techno Cable Group for the purchase of equipment, raw materials, and replenishment of working capital.
  • The company plans to increase copper wire production by 160% and aluminum wire by 230%.
  • The project includes digital transformation — implementation of ERP, improvement of accounting, optimization of business processes.
  • Internships for students of two universities are provided, which will serve the development of personnel in the industry.
  • The project aligns with the “Uzbekistan-2030” national strategy, specifically the task of triple domestic copper production.
  • Techno Cable Group уже производит свыше 3 000 типов электрических кабелей с различной изоляцией.

Context

The EBRD has already invested more than €5.33 billion in Uzbekistan for 186 projects – the country remains the leader in attracting funding in Central Asia.

The growth of the industrial sector and the localization of production is one of the priority tasks of Uzbekistan’s policy in the current period. The very fact of cooperation with a major international bank gives a signal of reliability and improves the investment climate.
