Wildberries acquired a stake in UzPost — postal privatization entered the market

The Russian marketplace Wildberries became the co-owner of UzPost, having bought back part of the state's share. Sources told RBC about the deal, but there is no official confirmation yet.

Why is this important

The deal could change the structure of Uzbekistan’s logistics market, accelerate UzPost’s digital transformation, and strengthen competition in the delivery and e-commerce sectors.

What happened

  • RBB LLC (Wildberries & Russ) acquired the state’s share in UzPost.
  • The deal was prepared in advance, the amount is not disclosed.
  • According to the media, Wildberries is participating in the privatization as part of a deal with the Agency for Management of State Assets.
  • In June, changes occurred in the list of UzPost affiliates: Aloqabank and the Ministry of Economy were excluded, and SAMA and UzNIF were added.
  • In September, 25% of UzPost’s shares, which were planned to be transferred to UzNIF, were transferred to the SAMA.
  • Earlier, Uzum announced its readiness to invest in UzPost logistics and digital services: up to $1.5 billion in the coming years.

What they say

Public status and investors will help UzPost increase resilience, expand its network, create jobs, and modernize delivery, — UzPost stated.

Context

UzPost is undergoing transformation and partial privatization. The company employs over 7,000 people, has 1,600 branches, and participates in national and international logistics projects. Wildberries’ interest could mean the beginning of deeper integration between Russian e-commerce and Uzbek infrastructure. Simultaneously, Uzum is strengthening its position by purchasing logistics and IT assets.
