Why is this important
The legal employment of drivers in the UAE opens a new labor migration channel with high income and legal protection. The UAE is one of the largest markets for Uzbek migrants, and official cooperation with large companies reduces the risks of illegal migration and exploitation.
What happened
- Dubai Taxi is ready to hire 200 Uzbek taxi drivers at the initial stage;
- With high efficiency, it is possible to attract an additional 500 drivers;
- The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Dubai held a meeting with the head of the company Said Amin Abdulrahman;
- The company promises legal support and legal employment;
- An agreement was reached to discuss the next stages of cooperation between the Uzbekistan Labor Agency and Dubai Taxi.
Context
The UAE is one of the key destinations for labor migration from Uzbekistan alongside Russia, Kazakhstan, and Turkey. According to the Central Bank, remittances to Uzbekistan for the first nine months of 2025 amounted to $13.9 billion (+24%), with a significant portion coming from the Gulf countries.
Working as a taxi driver in Dubai is attractive due to its high income compared to Uzbekistan. The average salary of a taxi driver in the UAE can reach $2000-3000 per month, which is several times higher than the average salary in Uzbekistan (about $300-400).
Legal employment through official channels protects migrants from exploitation, provides medical insurance, and social guarantees. Dubai Taxi is one of the emirate’s largest taxi companies, making the partnership reliable.
The expansion to 700 drivers with positive results indicates the pilot nature of the project. If the experience proves successful, it could open doors for other Uzbek specialists in the UAE’s transport sector.
The participation of the Uzbekistan Labor Agency in the negotiations will ensure the regulation of the hiring process at the state level, which will reduce the risks of fraud by intermediaries.
