Why is this important
Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan Komil Allamjonov has been appointed Advisor-Ambassador and Representative of the Presidential Administration of the country in the USA. His appointment strengthens Uzbekistan’s political and diplomatic presence in the US amid the intensification of cooperation following the C5+1 summit and the launch of the American-Uzbek Business and Investment Council. Uzbekistan is creating a permanent “communication channel” in Washington for strategic economic and political projects.
What happened
- The press secretary of the head of state, Sherzod Asadov, announced the appointment of Komil Allamjonov.
- At the same time, he will continue to work as an advisor to the head of the AP.
- The new position is being introduced as part of the establishment of the American-Uzbek Business and Investment Council, which was established by presidential decree following the visit to Washington.
- The co-chair of the council from Uzbekistan became the head of the Presidential Administration, Saida Mirziyoyeva.
- From the US side, the President’s Special Representative for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, became co-chair.
New position
Komil Allamjonov will begin working at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington on January 1, 2026.
His responsibilities include:
- coordination of the council’s work on the Uzbek side;
- discussion of large investment and trade projects;
- support for strategic agreements between the two countries.
Context
- In November, Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Washington, where the C5+1 summit and a meeting with US President Donald Trump took place.
- Following the visit, the parties agreed to create a new bilateral platform for the development of investment, trade, and economic partnership — the American-Uzbek Business and Investment Council.
- In parallel, Uzbekistan is strengthening the institutional mechanisms of interaction with the USA, including by expanding its diplomatic presence and creating specialized positions.
- Komil Allamjonov’s appointment is a step towards regular and direct coordination of projects with the American side.
