Why is this important
Burger King is one of the international indicators of market openness. The launch of major fast food brands shows that conditions for foreign investors continue to improve, and that Uzbekistan’s consumer market is considered attractive.
What is known
- The brand license was obtained by International Beverages Tashkent.
- The first Burger King branches may open in the next 2-3 months, with the target being the end of 2025.
- The appearance of “Soon to Open” banners was celebrated near the Alpomish Ice Palace in Tashkent.
- Tashkent City Mall and Seoul Mun are also considered locations.
- According to the plan, Tashkent could become Burger King’s regional headquarters in Central Asia, and the license extends not only to Uzbekistan but to the entire region.
Context
Burger King had already tried to enter Uzbekistan in 2021 through a Moscow franchising company. Three points in Tashkent (Babur, Atlas, Chilanzar) were announced, but the project was not implemented – the reasons were not officially disclosed. Some banners were never removed then.
Now IBT, a major beverage manufacturer (Pepsi, 7UP, Mirinda, Lipton), has received an exclusive license. The company belongs to the IHC Group (International Holding Company, UAE), which is actively increasing investments in Uzbekistan.
Burger King will become the second-largest international player in Uzbek fast food.
