A $122 million automobile plant will be launched in the Syrdarya region

In 2026, the region's infrastructure will receive another $100 million.

Why is this important

For a long time, the Syrdarya region was classified as a region with a limited industrial base and a high dependence on subsidies. The sustainable growth of investments, industry, services, and household incomes means that the region is moving from a survival model to an economic development model. This directly affects employment, income levels, social stability, and the investment attractiveness of the entire region.

What happened

  • Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the extraordinary session of the Syrdarya Regional Council of People’s Deputies and heard a report on the region’s achievements.
  • In 2026, it is planned to launch a large car factory in the Syrdarya region, which is being built jointly with Chinese partners. The volume of investments is $122 million.
  • By the end of the year, it is planned to build another 9 km of water pipelines for the supply of water to the Yangiur, Mirzaabad, Sardoba, Bayaut, and Khavast districts.
  • In 2026, an additional $100 million will be allocated to the region’s infrastructure.

Numbers and facts

  • Over the past 8 years, the region has attracted $4 billion in investments, which has made it possible to implement 187 large projects, create 120 thousand jobs, and master the production of 50 new types of products.
  • The volume of industrial production increased more than 6 times — from 4 trillion to 25 trillion soums.
  • The service sector increased 8 times — from 1.5 trillion to 12 trillion soums.
  • The cities of Gulistan and Yangiyer, as well as five districts of the region, have moved from subsidized to self-financing.
  • In November 2025, the Uzbek-Kazakh International Center for Industrial Cooperation opened in the region, by the end of March 2026, 14 enterprises worth $300 million will be launched, and by 2027, an additional 40 projects worth $720 million will be implemented.

Experience and plans

  • The President specifically noted the experience of Saykhunabad district in increasing household incomes: 13 thousand households’ incomes increased several times, 1,800 families created greenhouses on 5-6 acres, and another 622 households on 2-3 acres.
  • In six months, 700 new enterprises have started operating, employing 15,000 unemployed people.
  • About 1,500 families have been excluded from the list of those in need.
  • $100 million has been allocated for the development of the region’s infrastructure, including major repairs of 47 schools, 45 kindergartens, and 31 medical facilities, renovation of 5 sports and cultural facilities, and construction of 87 km of water pipelines.

Context

  • The creation of international industrial centers with the participation of Kazakhstan and China aligns with Uzbekistan’s strategy for developing export-oriented industry and border cooperation.
  • For the region, this means transitioning to a more stable economic model, less dependence on the budget, and increased private investment.
  • For the population — new jobs, income growth, improvement of the quality of social and communal infrastructure.
  • For business — expanding industrial cooperation, access to international markets, participation in large industrial projects.
