In Tashkent, cameras started being installed at fairs following complaints about inflated prices

Video surveillance cameras have started to be installed at affordable food fairs in Tashkent. The first checkpoints appeared in the “Hospital” and “Chorsu” markets.

Why is this important

The measure is aimed at increasing trade transparency and preventing speculation with prices for socially significant goods.

What happened

  • Social media users complained about the discrepancy between the declared and actual prices at the fairs;
  • The khokimiyat announced the launch of video surveillance on counters with available products;
  • The cameras are already operating in the Mirobod market (“Hospital”) and the “Eski Juva” market (“Chorsu”);
  • In the near future, they will appear in all major markets of the capital.

Context

Shopping fairs were organized to support the population against price increases. Similar video surveillance measures are already being implemented in the regions to monitor trade and prevent corruption practices.
