Gold bars in Uzbekistan have set a new record for the 30th time since the beginning of the year

On September 17, the Central Bank set a new maximum value for measured gold bars. One gram has risen to 1.51 million soums, marking the 30th record since the beginning of the year.

  • A 5g ingot is valued at 7.553 million soums, which is 22,000 soums higher than the previous record.

Context

The Central Bank has been selling gold coins to the population since 2018, and bars since 2020. Citizens are allowed to export gold abroad while observing the rules.

According to the Central Bank, by September 2023, Uzbeks had 255 kg of measured bars, with 10 grams being the most frequently purchased. Access to gold is seen as an alternative to dollar savings and a tool for investment.
